In a significant medical achievement for the Kutch region, Ushaben Shah, a resident of Bhuj, has successfully recovered after a critical 55-day battle for her life at K.K. Patel Super Speciality Hospital.
Ushaben was admitted to the hospital after contracting Swine Flu, which led to a severe lung infection and subsequent failure of her natural lungs. Her condition was further complicated by a fungal infection and kidney issues. Initially placed on a ventilator, her condition demanded more advanced intervention. With the consent of her family, she was placed on ECMO (artificial lungs) support for 22 consecutive days.
After defeating near-certain death through rigorous medical care, Ushaben was discharged on Wednesday evening. The hospital staff, doctors, and community leaders gave her an emotional send-off with flowers and well-wishes.
A Milestone for Kutch Healthcare
This case is notable as it is the second time in just one week that the Critical Care Team at K.K. Patel Hospital has successfully utilized the life-saving ECMO system.
Gopalbhai Gorasiya (Trust Chairman) and Kesarabhai Pindoriya (Vice Chairman) congratulated the hospital’s Critical Care medical team for giving a new lease of life to patients. The hospital trust noted that previously, such advanced “life support” equipment had to be ordered from outside Kutch, but the trust has now procured these facilities in-house, providing crucial lifelines to critical patients in the region.
The successful Critical Care team included Dr. Gyanesh Thakkar, Dr. Arvind Chandroshekar, Dr. Tejas Nakum, and Dr. Nishith Rajguru. The Leva Patel Trust expressed gratitude to all donors who contributed to the hospital’s construction, making such advanced treatments possible locally.
